SDEF Anchor Award

Achieve Academic Excellence with SDEF Website

The ANCHOR Award is a need-based stipend awarded to students who have demonstrated academic perseverance and are within reach of a degree, certification, or professional milestone, but face a financial hardship that threatens to delay or derail their progress. Rooted in the Dr.

Shovie Ducre Educational Foundation’s commitment to educational equity and the belief that every student’s potential is worth protecting, this award recognizes that the final stretch of a student’s journey is often the most vulnerable — and that one steady, well-timed act of support can be the

anchor that holds them until they reach the shore.

2026 recipient of the SDEF Anchor Award is Ms. Kierra Hickerson.  Kierra Hickerson is a proud graduate of Southern University at New Orleans, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. As a first-generation college graduate, Kierra’s journey has been

marked by perseverance, faith, and an unwavering commitment to creating a better future for her family and community.
